The region itself is spell-binding in its beauty, and hiking through Los Nevados is a great way to experience all of the varied ecosystems. Mind you, the jeep that picked us up at the end was another great way to see it all, as we spiralled up and down the gravel road back into Santa Rosa de Cabal!
We had a wonderful experience on our 3-day hike through Los Nevados with our guide, Diego. He was experienced, knowledgable, and fun – one of the best guides we have ever trekked with. Not only did he organize everything at the last minute for us, but when one of our group began to feel the effects of altitude sickness, he quickly changed our route to take us through a lower elevation, while still allowing us to complete the hike and see many of the same incredible sights. He hit a great balance of sharing information about the park and its flora and fauna, and just letting us hike on and take in the scenery.
The equipment provided (tent, sleeping bags, thermarests) was in excellent condition and the food that Diego prepared was delicious. It was three days we won’t soon forget.
